FEATURED EDUCATION SESSIONS

Technology Foundations Creating Foodservice Success

Kay Segal

The appropriate integration of technology for foodservice is essential for long-term success!  Whether accurately accounting for recipe ingredients or creating forecasts for production, technology can and should play a big role in foodservice program development.  Appropriate technological foundations for foodservice can lead to more consistent and profitable operational execution.

During this session, we will hear from retailers tasked with foodservice category management at companies with different foodservice programs, providing vendor and retailer IT executives with needed information for development or enhancement of their platform and network.  We will gain insight for questions such as … Do the current technology options provide needed tracking for foodservice products, recipes, production and waste?  Do they help operations maximize sales and margin?

Kay Segal of Business Accelerator Team will lead this panel discussion.  Her first-hand knowledge in traditional foodservice and convenience store foodservice, marketing as well as operations provides her a unique vantage point from which to foster insightful dialogue.

Progress in the API Sprint

David Ezell

Convenience Retail Operators are laser-focused on implementing new technologies, new architectures, and most importantly they are focused on gaining control of their data.  As they race ahead with development, they unavoidably create mountains of new “technical debt:” that’s the cumulative cost of non-standardized “one off” solutions, along with the cost of interfacing or boarding new solutions into resulting bespoke software ecosystems.  With the API Sprint Initiative, Conexxus is working to help retailers address this technical debt problem head on, through use of existing standards in new ways, creation of common dictionaries for data items, tools for examining interoperability, and much more. This session will review The “API Sprint” as a NACS sponsored project, Table-stakes architecture description (the API Sprint will turn the standards-defined communication stack upside down), and additional Conexxus API work and resources for both members and non-members.

Convenience Retail:  Data Security by Obscurity is Over

The indicators of compromise show that a very large and sophisticated attack group, with many smaller cells, is specifically targeting the petroleum industry.  These attacks continue to deliver huge successes for the attackers and they will continue to target both upstream and downstream petroleum marketers.  The complex nature of petroleum point of sale and back office systems have actually protected us as a market for quite some time. But "now it's here" and our days of security appear to be over... it's time to face the threats head on and address them.

During this session, we will learn from data security experts from our petroleum industry on how to bolster the security of our network.  Adding to the discussion will be insight on what steps to take to contain and limit the scope of a potential data breach attack.

State of the Convenience Industry and Outlook Ahead

Lori Buss Stillman

Today’s retail landscape continues to evolve and be shaped by the headwinds of change.  In an era of rising consumer demands and digital advances, the needs and preferences of today’s convenience shopper is also evolving at an accelerated pace.  Lori Buss Stillman, VIce President of Research, will highlight key performance metrics and insights from the soon-to-be-released 2019 NACS State of the Industry Report, as well as translate how these data will inform actions for the industry across a variety of key dimensions:  store assortment and promotion strategies, digital, customer experience, shopper conversion and more.  If understanding what today’s pace of change will mean for tomorrow’s convenience retailer, you won’t want to miss Lori’s insights.
