Mark Carl is CEO of ControlScan. He comes to us from EchoSat, Inc., which successfully merged with ControlScan to form a combined company offering a full suite of managed security and compliance services for secure payments.
Mark is a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in both Intelligence and Special Operations, specializing in linguistics, cryptography and communications. He became fluent in multiple spoken languages during his time of service, and graduated in 1992 from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California.
Mark is an active supporter of data security standards adoption within the petroleum retail market. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Conexxus Data Security Committee and is also a member of the U.S. Payments Forum’s petroleum special interest group.
Tom Callahan has spent more than 15 years in information technology and security, focusing on areas like cloud services, cybersecurity, and infrastructure and operations. His background also includes business IT restructuring and retooling to support ongoing changes throughout Information Technology and Information Security.
As Director of Operations for the ControlScan Managed Detection and Response (MDR) solution set, Tom is responsible for the operations and performance of the company’s 24x7 security operations center (SOC) in Hunt Valley, MD. In addition, Tom oversees development and innovation surrounding the company’s proprietary SIEM technology platform, Cyphon.
Tom joined ControlScan through its October 2018 acquisition of Dunbar Cybersecurity, where he also served as Director of Operations. Prior to Dunbar Cybersecurity, Tom executed on cloud-based infrastructure and cybersecurity strategies at The Baltimore Life Insurance Companies, and prior to that he held several administrative and operational IT roles within TESSCO Technologies.
Tom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology from Towson University. He is a Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) and a Certified ScrumMaster, and he is an active member of the Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum.
