The standard now makes it unnecessary for solution providers to dedicate unproductive time to writing proprietary interfaces or for retailers to have to pay for such interfaces. “This release brings the POS Back Office Interface Standard to a more complete and implementable level than previous versions,” said PCATS Executive Director John Hervey. “This version represents almost two year’s worth of effort by a working group composed of a very dedicated group of volunteers from some of the leading solution providers to the industry,” Hervey added. This version of the standard was released in two formats: one version is in document type definition (dtd) and the other in Xschema (xsd).  The general release Version 3.3 can be downloaded at www.pcats.org.  A fully documented release is available to PCATS members in the “members only” section of the same Web site.    An earlier version of the standard was demonstrated at NACStech 2002 and the NACS Show 2002.  Hervey said that the upcoming NACStech technology conference and exposition, scheduled for May 17 – 19 in Dallas, TX, at the Gaylord Texan Resort (www.nacstech.com), will feature a demonstration of the PCATS Smart Store and will feature Version 3.3.” “We are extremely pleased that a number of solution providers have already indicated that they will be incorporating Version 3.3 into their product offerings for several major retailers,” said Scott Hartman, president of York, PA-based Rutter’s Farm Stores and chairman of PCATS.  “This is PCATS’ first major standards release since its founding earlier this year and demonstrates to our 82 members the commitment we have to produce tangible results for the industry,” Said Hartman Solution providers and retailers desiring additional information should send a request to [email protected].  -###- The Petroleum Convenience Alliance for Technology Standards (PCATS) is composed of over 80 members representing major companies, both supplier and retailer, in the petroleum marketing and convenience industry.  PCATS mission is to develop, maintain and help members implement a variety of technology standards.  John HerveyExecutive Director and Chief Executive OfficerPetroleum Convenience Alliance for Technology Standards 1600 Duke St., Alexandria, VA  22314-6100 direct dial (703) 518-4297, fax (703) 684-1625 [email protected]
